Executive Chef Simon Garbutt of Zen Catering last year celebrated 3 decades in the industry.
At the age of 24 Simon’s handwritten letter to several Top UK Chef’s resulted in 4 job offers at renowned restaurants. Choosing from these he claimed the position of head chef at Michelin Star venue Castle Taunton, Somerset underneath UK celebrity Chef Phil Vickery.
Following this he took up the position of Executive Head Chef at the exclusive country members club Babington House in Somerset, England. This hotel was voted #2 in a poll of worldwide trendiest hotels and #1 UK Leisure Hotel Condé de Nast Traveller.
Moving to Australia in 2006 he started as Head Chef of renowned Brisbane Restaurant, Two Small Rooms, followed by his time at Watt Modern Dining. Simon joined Zen Catering in 2009 bringing with him a zest for producing restaurant quality cuisine across large scale events.
As Executive Chef, he has overseen the catering for prestigious events such as Brisbane Festival, Beef Week and Ironman.
Simon has spent his career living by the ideals that food should be made with the best and freshest possible ingredients and that simplicity is the key.
