James Brinklow started his career as a Chef at Adelaide’s outstanding Mona Lisa Restaurant in its heydays of the 90s. After a stint of diverse experiences, honing his skills across Queensland and South Australia, he was called to step up as head chef in one of Adelaide’s most decorated restaurants, Auge in 2002.
In his era at Auge, he was at the helm of menu’s that twice saw Auge win South Australian Restaurant of the year and then go on to win the national title of Best Italian Restaurant in 2007.
Having seen Auge through to the pinnacle of its successes, James then spotted an opportunity to pursue an exciting new direction with the freshly established Lane Vineyard restaurant in Hahndorf. Here, James was able to forge an innovative and contemporary path, championing local regional produce alongside estate grown premium wines with the mantra of pursuing elegance in simplicity.
This move has proven to be an inspired fit for both chef and winery and now sees him heading The Lane kitchen team into their 8th year. In this time, the restaurant has consistently maintained a two hat rating in the annual Australian Good Food & Wine Guide and has steadily evolved and refined its experience to now be recognised as the number 3 regional dining destination in South Australia (2017 Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide).
